Cold chain: the best logistics solutions

Cold chain logistics is one of the most important and challenging sectors in the industrial world.

In this new article, Campisa technicians explain the main points for the cold chain and how a company must structure itself to manage this process in the best possible way.

WHAT IS THE COLD CHAIN?

The term cold chain refers to a constant temperature control system, to guarantee the preservation of the quality and safety of food, medicines and other products which could be damaged without adequate storage.

Transport, distribution and storage are the three fundamental steps of the production process. The system is based on maintaining a constant temperature, between 0°C and 4°C , which prevents the bacterial flora from proliferating and affecting the freshness of the products.

The cold chain already begins in the various production sites and ends in the sites where the goods will be stored. During the entire process it will therefore be of fundamental importance to always maintain the same temperature, in order to guarantee the freshness and quality of the transported goods.

The major obstacles that this chain could run into are represented by outdated technologies or tools, or by the failure to comply with the rules that ensure the success of the whole process; first of all the management of products arriving at the storage site.

THE LOADING BAYS FOR THE COLD CHAIN

One of the most important pieces of equipment, useful for preserving the cold chain during product handling, are the loading bays .

Loading bays are designated areas within the logistics hubs used to move products from the warehouse to the transport vehicle.

The loading docks are equipped with specific equipment that allows operations to be facilitated and carried out in safety: loading rampsindustrial doorssealants and safety systems .

For the cold chain, Campisa has devised a dedicated solution and it is the recessed loading bays .

The recessed bays consist of a loading ramp with telescopic lip installed directly in our Prefabricated Pit, a sectional door that closes in front of the ramp and a specially developed sealant to ensure maximum thermal insulation during loading and unloading operations.

Thanks to the recessed bays it is possible to eliminate the following risks:

  • Break the cold chain
  • Thermal dispersion
  • Damage fresh produce
  • Energy waste
  • Slowdown of logistics flows
